Installing Windows XP Themes

Most themes that you download or purchase are self-extracting and are applied automatically.

But in some cases you would only be given a single file with extensions '.theme' or '.msstyles' etc.

In such cases you will need to copy the files to your windows theme folder.

Open the drive or local disk on which your OS is installed. Usually it is C:.
Click on 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'. If Folders are already been shown then Skip this step.
Open the 'WINDOWS' folder.
Now open the 'Resources' folder.
Next open the 'Themes' folder.
You have to paste the theme file here.

Another method is that you right-click on the desktop area. (Not on any icon)

Then click on 'Properties'.

Properties Window will show up.

Click on the 'Themes' tab.

There you can find a list of pre-loaded themes.

Click on the arrow to show the drop-down menu.

Click on 'Browse...'

Select the folder where you have downloaded the theme file.

Click on open.
